By Joseph Ruzich, Special to the Tribune June 8, 2012 Two weeks after he had been paroled from prison in 1991, Marcus Lyons tried to crucify himself on an 8-foot-by-6-foot wooden cross outside the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton.

“I was calling on Jesus to help me,” Lyons said Thursday, recalling the incident. “And he did.” Lyons had been sent to prison after being found guilty of raping a female neighbor in west suburban Woodridge. But DNA evidence later proved he had been falsely convicted. On Thursday, a quarter-century after his arrest, it was announced that Lyons had been awarded a $5 million settlement from the village of Woodridge. …
